Max is a health-conscious man in his early thirties who has always paid close attention to how he feels and how he presents himself. Fitness is part of his identity; he values feeling strong in his body and carrying himself with confidence. Yet at 175 cm, he had long felt that his height did not match the image he wanted to project, personally or professionally.

When he first heard about limb lengthening surgery, he was sceptical. The idea that an adult could genuinely become taller sounded too good to be true. But his curiosity persisted, and after two years of careful thought he began researching providers who offered the procedure.

As a Canadian, his first instinct was to look at options in Canada and the United States. Max was not simply looking for somewhere that performed the surgery, however. He wanted a provider that could demonstrate a real commitment to safety, transparency and professional standards, and he spent a long time reading patient testimonials and studying real-life results so that he would know exactly what to expect.

He also understood that the operation itself was only one part of the journey. To him, post-operative care mattered every bit as much as the surgery, and he believed that a good outcome came from combining medical expertise with comprehensive support during recovery. With that in mind, he widened his search to find a provider that offered both a high standard of care and reasonable cost. That is how he found Wanna Be Taller.

CHAPTER 01Three consultations and a long list of questions

After exploring a number of providers in Türkiye, Max took the time to gather detailed information from each of them. The care and attention with which his questions were answered played a decisive role in deciding which ones to take seriously. Eventually he narrowed the field to three and scheduled online consultations, arriving at each one with a prepared list of questions, concerns and doubts.

The time difference between Canada and Türkiye could easily have complicated scheduling, but his patient coordinator arranged every call around his time zone so that the process stayed smooth and convenient.

In his first consultation with us, Max asked about everything he was curious or concerned about, including what he could realistically expect from the procedure. His coordinator walked him through the surgical process, the possible outcomes and the recovery timeline in clear, thorough detail. Max was impressed by the professionalism and transparency of the conversation, but he was not yet ready to commit.

Sensing his hesitation, the coordinator suggested a further online consultation, this time directly with the surgeon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yunus Öç, so that Max could gain the clarity and confidence he needed to decide.

CHAPTER 02“No. Never.” — the answer that decided everything

One of Max’s main concerns was whether a full 10 cm could be achieved on his femurs with the LON method. Most of the providers he had spoken to had told him it was very likely. Max, however, understood that the real answer would depend on his own anatomy and proportions.

During the consultation he shared his X-rays and asked Dr. Öç the same question. The answer was not what he expected. Reaching 10 cm on the femurs, the surgeon explained, would not be advisable in his case: Max’s femurs were already unusually long in relation to his tibias, and adding another 10 cm would produce a visibly unbalanced, unnatural result.

Still curious, Max pressed further: if he was willing to accept the aesthetic imbalance, would the surgeon still let him go to 10 cm?

The reply was firm and unambiguous: “No. Never.”

For Max, that moment was the turning point. He had found a surgeon who placed patient safety, proportion and long-term results above simply delivering whatever was requested. Dr. Öç recommended a two-stage approach instead: one surgery on the femurs and another on the tibias. By dividing the total lengthening between the two segments, Max could safely reach the height he wanted while keeping his body proportions natural.

After that consultation, Max was confident in his decision. He wanted to have the procedure within two weeks, and the team moved quickly: the surgery date was set, the required medical tests were organised, a personal caretaker and companion were arranged, and the house he had chosen for his stay was prepared. Every detail was handled promptly so that the experience would be as smooth and stress-free as possible.

CHAPTER 03First step: the tibias

Two weeks later, Max boarded a flight from Canada to Türkiye. The day after he landed, the team welcomed him and accompanied him to the hospital, guiding him through every step of the pre-operative process: comprehensive blood tests, anaesthesia clearance, updated X-ray imaging and a final consultation with Dr. Öç, the last step before a long-considered dream became reality.

In that final discussion, Max decided to begin with tibia lengthening using the LON method. Starting with the lower legs, he and the surgeon agreed, would let him judge how his overall proportions were developing before moving on to the femurs, giving him a better-informed decision for the second stage of his journey.

After a day spent exploring Istanbul, dining at well-known restaurants and enjoying the city’s atmosphere, Max returned to his hotel to rest before the big day.

Early the next morning, a driver from our partner travel agency collected him and took him to the hospital. Filled with anticipation and hope, Max entered the operating room. The operation went as planned, and he was transferred to a private patient room, where a dedicated caregiver stayed by his side throughout his four-day hospital stay. Dr. Öç checked on his recovery personally each day, and the physiotherapist visited regularly to guide him through the essential early exercises that lay the groundwork for a strong recovery.

At discharge, Max felt a deep sense of relief and accomplishment; the hardest step was behind him. He travelled by private ambulance to the house that had been prepared for him, where a warm and homely environment was waiting.

CHAPTER 04A house, a roommate and a steady rhythm

On arrival, Max was relieved to find that much of the immediate post-operative discomfort had already subsided. That early ease allowed him to devote himself fully to recovery. From the start, his days followed a steady rhythm: daily physiotherapy, gentle exercise, and careful attention to his healing and gradual lengthening.

Max stayed in a house accommodation shared with another patient: a comfortable, welcoming space with a fully equipped kitchen, a bright living room and its own dedicated physiotherapy room, where residents can exercise in a familiar, home-like setting. It was here that he met his roommate, who was going through limb lengthening at the same time. The two quickly became friends, bonding over shared challenges and celebrating each small milestone together. They often cooked side by side, swapped stories in the living room and encouraged each other through stretching and strengthening sessions.

Throughout his stay, the medical follow-up remained close and consistent. Max received five physiotherapy sessions a week with the physiotherapist assigned to him, whose guidance helped him maintain flexibility and strength, and his dressings were changed three times a week so that the surgical sites stayed clean and well protected. Professional care and a supportive living environment together made a tangible difference to his recovery.

Before long, Max no longer felt like “just a patient”. He had become part of a small community of clinicians, fellow patients and friends, all working towards the same goal: healing, growing and walking towards a stronger future.

CHAPTER 056 cm on the tibias

As the tibia lengthening neared completion, Max had every reason to be proud. From the beginning he had been determined to minimise the risk of complications, and he worked hard to make that happen. Fully aware of the challenges that can arise — nerve pain, so-called “ballerina syndrome”, reduced flexibility — he went well beyond his scheduled physiotherapy, committing to daily stretching and mobility work and staying consistent throughout.

His effort paid off. He achieved 6 cm on the tibias, very close to the upper limit for the segment and a result that demands real discipline. By the time fixator removal was scheduled, Max showed no nerve pain, no stiffness and no loss of flexibility: an outcome that reflected both his dedication and the effectiveness of his care plan.

CHAPTER 06Second stage: fixator removal and femur lengthening in one session

Max underwent tibia fixator removal and femur lengthening with the LON method in a single surgical session. Having already been through the process once, he knew what to expect in the operating room and in recovery, although this stage was naturally more demanding, with both segments now involved.

Despite the added difficulty, Max approached the process with resilience. During his hospital stay he received regular physiotherapy to support mobility and healing, while Dr. Öç monitored his condition daily to make sure recovery was progressing safely.

Following the procedure, Max was determined to put safety first. On the surgeon’s advice he avoided placing excessive load on his legs and initially used a wheelchair to move around comfortably. Just one week after discharge, he had regained enough independence to manage his daily needs on his own, and around four to six weeks after the tibia fixator removal his bone consolidation had progressed far enough for him to bear weight without discomfort.

Although the external fixators were still on his femurs, Max could move around the house easily with a walker, staying mobile while he continued to heal.

CHAPTER 07+12.5 cm: 187.5 cm

After reaching 6.5 cm on the femurs, Max was ready to complete his journey. Following a thorough evaluation by the treating medical team, the external fixators were removed. He spent that night at the partner hospital under close medical supervision, and once his condition was stable he was taken back to his residence by private ambulance for a smooth, restful transition.

Thanks to his dedication, patience and unwavering commitment, Max gained a total of 12.5 cm and now stands at 187.5 cm. After five months of daily physiotherapy, consistent home exercise, two lengthening stages and three surgical procedures, he could say with pride that he had turned his dream into reality.

There is also an interview with Max and a member of our team, in which they talk openly about his journey: the motivations behind his decision, the moment he committed, and the challenges and triumphs along the way. Over those five months Max lived through both the highs and the lows of the process, and he shares candidly how he stayed determined, overcame obstacles and reached his goal.

MAX IN CONVERSATION — THE INTERVIEW

We also organised a warm farewell celebration for Max and another patient who completed his treatment at the same time: an evening of laughter, heartfelt conversation and good wishes for the next chapter.

CHAPTER 08Months later: the messages that kept coming

Patient stories usually end with the final measurement. Max’s did not. Months after returning to Canada, he kept in touch, and his messages tell the rest of the story better than we could: he is doing well, his consolidation appears to be complete, and once his affairs are in order he plans to return to Türkiye in the closing months of 2026 for the removal of his internal nails, and to say thank you in person.

Every patient is different, and Max’s outcome reflects his own anatomy, his own discipline and his own treatment plan. But his story shows what a carefully staged plan, an honest surgeon and a patient who does the daily work can achieve together, and how far a single “No. Never.” can carry someone in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can 10 cm be achieved on the femur with the LON method?
Sometimes, but not for everyone. The safe amount depends on the patient’s anatomy and proportions, particularly the ratio between femur and tibia length. In Max’s case the surgeon advised against 10 cm on the femurs and recommended dividing the lengthening across both segments instead.
Why was the lengthening done in two stages?
Splitting the total between the tibias and the femurs allowed Max to reach his goal while keeping natural body proportions, and starting with the tibias let him judge his proportions before deciding on the second stage.
How long did the whole process take?
About five months in Istanbul, covering two lengthening stages and three surgical procedures, followed by continued recovery at home.
What happens to the internal nails afterwards?
Internal nails are usually removed in a separate procedure once bone consolidation is complete, typically one to one and a half years after surgery. Max plans to return for his removal in late 2026.
How much physiotherapy is involved?
Max received five physiotherapy sessions a week during his stay and added daily stretching and mobility work of his own. Physiotherapy is a core part of recovery and is planned individually for each patient.
