Mr. Drew's Limb Lengthening Journey - During Covid-19

We are honored and pleased to be of service to our superb patient Mr. Drew from the UK, who started his Limb Lengthening Journey – During Covid-19. Mr. Drew had first inquired about limb lengthening surgery, back in April 2020 and was in contact with our medical consultants. Due to the sudden Corona Virus Pandemic halting everything, from flights to restrictive hospital treatment options; Mr. Drew planned on having the surgery by the start of 2021, but as the pandemic and its effects slowly lessened in Turkey; Mr. Drew changed his plans and arrived in Istanbul Turkey by August for his Femoral Lengthening Surgery with LON method and so started his Limb Lengthening Journey – During Covid-19. We are happy and grateful to Mr. Drew for his permission in sharing his limb lengthening surgical experience and his testimonial to our service and hospitality.

Our patient’s consultant arranged an online consultation with our doctors and Mr. Drew was more pleased and determined to gain new height and move forward with his, Limb Lengthening Journey – During Covid-19. He was determined to come to Turkey for the surgery, even if he had to self-quarantine before the surgery, as per the Corona Virus and Hospital Protocols; however, the hospitals had Corona Virus testing facilities available for quick and rapid testing for the virus; so that the patients could move forward with their surgical lengthening treatment.

In order to ease the financial burdens of our patients during these hard times with the Corona Virus epidemic, Wanna Be Taller team introduced a special package of one Month free Hotel stay for our patients arriving for their surgeries, from May to August 2020; as a way to ease and help with the Coronavirus pandemic, and financial burdens on our patients, in these trying times. Mr. Drew took advantage of this offer and finalized his surgery for August 2020.

Generally, our international patient’s package includes an English to Turkish translator, in order to make it easier to establish a clear and precice mode of communication between the patients, doctors and medical staff at the hospital; but it was extremely important for Mr. Drew to have an English speaking caretaker, for his daily needs as well, especially after the surgery. Thus, we tailor-made his surgical and post-surgery residential package with us and arranged an English speaking caretaker and translator for him during his post-op recovery.

Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic and while taking all necessary precautions; Mr. Drew had a wonderful time exploring Istanbul, during his complimentary Istanbul City tour with us. In truth, we understand that traveling to a new country for any medical procedure can be full of anxiety and stress; thus we try to include such activities in our surgical packages, so that the patients feel comfortable and joyful; before they undergo the surgical procedure. From exploring the great grand bazaar and other historic sights to tasting the local delicacies that Istanbul has to offer; it helps in relaxing our patients and introducing them to Turkish culture and cuisine as well.

Now, usually, after we have a day or relaxation, we schedule our patients for their first appointment with their doctor for pre-surgery medical testing, which may include x-rays, blood tests and etc., and medical consultation. After, finalizing the consultation and the doctors and patients ascertain the date of the surgery, and everything is managed smoothly thereof.

The very next day of the medical testing, Mr. Drew’s leg-lengthening surgery was successfully performed and when he woke up and as the anesthesia wore off; he was in a bit of pain; which is normal, after the surgery. But our staff, watchfulness, and care helped him in taking his first steps after the surgery.

Mr. Drew was extremely happy to have found the medical staff to be very helpful and through with explaining the daily routines and teaching him how to lengthen or distract daily and all the cleaning routines associated with keeping the external fixator and wounds clean. We cannot stress enough, the importance of regular cleaning with external fixator methods; as there risk if infection, can always materialize and cause suffering to our patients.

After spending 5 days at the hospital, Mr. Drew chooses to reside in Istanbul for one month, thanks to our one-month free residence package deal, which he availed. In fact, he chooses to upgrade his post-surgery residence package by paying the difference to our premium residence package, at the first-class 5-star residence at the European side of Istanbul. Mr. Drew is in regular contact with his doctors and has a consultation with the doctors every 2 weeks; with fresh x-rays to determine his leg-lengthening progress.
